Summary

The study involved a coordinated analysis of pre-existing NIHR BioResource data from 1000 participants, to investigate the association of lipid profile phenotypes with the variant CYP27A1.

The study followed on from the pilot study (CBR83), and aimed to provide power to confirm or refute the hypotheses that the eQTL variant rs9333994 exerts an effect on cholesterol uptake and efflux by monocyte-derived macrophages.

The datasets in the NIHR BioResource allowed the research team to supplement the pilot data with a large scale study to test the association of the genotype with lipid profiles in healthy individuals.
