Study summary

Although SARS-CoV-2 virus causes a lung infection, there is a large incidence of brain issues occurring in COVID-19 patients. These range from headache and loss of smell to encephalitis and stroke. Little is known about the likely diverse biological pathways causing these issues and there is a dire need to understand how to prevent and treat them. We are conducting pre-clinical and clinical research to study blood markers of brain complications from COVID-19, including brain injury markers and immune proteins. Participants' data and blood samples will be used to investigate the causes of brain issues caused by COVID-19. Our research aims to understand the pathways that are involved in COVID-19 causing brain issues and in the long-term, have a positive impact on human health by identifying potential therapeutic strategies.
