The NIHR BioResource Centre Southampton is one of 18 centres across England with the aim of building a national panel of research-ready participants.
A principal aim is to make recruitment to clinical research and trials of new drugs or treatments more efficient. Improved access to research volunteers will ensure that research can be completed quickly and effectively, making it easier to bring new treatments to market.
The NIHR BioResource Centre Southampton is funded through the NIHR Southampton Clinical Research Facility (CRF) and the NIHR Southampton Biomedical Research Centre (BRC), based at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS), dedicated to facilitating clinical research at Southampton General Hospital.
Southampton serves the Wessex Clinical Research Network, combining superb clinical research facilities with academic and clinical excellence to advance health, with programme specialties in nutrition, respiratory and critical care, cancer and musculoskeletal research.
