Information regarding the current BioResource cost guidelines.

Private and commercial organisations

Private and commercial organisations are subject to study-related fees, which may include:

  • initial setup fee (for the primary local BioResource)
  • courier and volunteer expenses (travel, parking, etc.)
  • enrolment fee (for each additional centre)
  • sample collection fees (saliva, blood or other sample collections)
  • screen failure fee (rejection of more than 1% of total participants that fit the criteria)

These fees are charged per study and vary based on the study protocol.

For academic and clinical researchers

The NIHR BioResource operates on a not-for-profit, cost recovery basis for academic and clinical research.

Most services — including participant screening, sample collection, and genotyping — are currently free of charge.

  • Researchers typically only cover courier and volunteer expenses.
  • All costs are discussed and agreed upon during the application review process.
  • NIHR BioResource reserves the right to update fees without notice.
  • Reduced rates are available for SMEs with verified status.
