Inclusivity

The NIHR BioResource is built on the contributions of more than 350,000 volunteers.

Inclusivity is very important to us, whether in person, by phone or online.  Making our website accessible is therefore, a priority.

We aim to meet Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 with   the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Version 2.1.

Our website currently is partially compliant with the WCAG version 2.1 AA standard and  meets some AAA criteria. We continue to identify areas for improvement and welcome feedback from our audience.

Our website has been designed with accessibility in mind for people with disabilities, those with access needs, those who may not identify as having a disability and those who have not yet received a diagnosis

We audit our website regularly and are committed to ongoing improvement. If you notice an issue or have suggestions, , please contact us.

Areas we'd like to improve

  • Video accessibility. Some videos do not currently have sign language or audio only alternatives. For new content, we will consider captions, extended descriptions and additional media formats.
  • PDF reduction and improvement. We aim to reduce the number of PDFs used and improve the accessibility of those we retain.
  • Text spacing and readability. We may test adjustments to line height and text spacing to improve readability.
  • Site map development. A site map is not yet available but is planned.
  • Reading level and terminology. Although we have assessed reading levels across the site, some pages contain technical or business language that may be challenging for some users. This includes occasional abbreviations and specialist terms.
  • Form accessibility. Our forms are designed to be short with clearly labelled fields. If more complex forms are required, we will review the need for input assistance and stronger error prevention.

We are working to improve our website. If you have had any problems, please let us know.
