What we do

Put simply, our slogan is: Say what we do; do what we say.

In practice, this means writing lots of policies and procedures to describe what we do, and then have independent bodies check that this is what we actually do.

We also perform internal monitoring and audits to verify our processes and to ensure teams follow the guidance.

Structure

Oversight board - Provides strategic governance and reviews resource allocation. Meet twice a year and receive reports from the Steering Committee.

Steering committee - Directs BioResource activity, sets priorities for disease recruitment, technology platforms, and national recall studies.

Expert working groups - Provide specialist input (e.g.  IT and Data) and report regularly to the Steering Committee.

We are funded by the tax-payer through a grant from the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) which is part of the UK Government Department of Health & Social Care. Our spending is reviewed by both the NIHR and an Oversight Board to make sure we stay on track.

Current members are displayed on our Steering Committee and Oversight Board pages.
