Study summary

Crohn’s disease is a lifelong debilitating condition causing relapsing bouts of intestinal inflammation that can affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract. Despite advances in the treatment of Crohn’s Disease, there are still some patients for whom current medications do not work or stop working. A new medication has been shown to reduce symptoms of moderately to severely active Crohn’s Disease in the clinical trial setting. However, research is needed to confirm these clinical trial findings in patients receiving care as part of routine clinical practice in the UK.

In this study, we would like to evaluate how well mirikizumab works as a treatment for adult patients who have been diagnosed with moderately to severely active Crohn’s Disease and who receive the medication through their NHS treatment. The primary measure of the study will be to assess the number of patients remaining on mirikizumab at 12 months after starting the medication. We will also review other clinician and patient reported measures of disease such as disease activity scores and abdominal pain.

The proposed research will contribute to medical knowledge and improve healthcare practices, ultimately leading to better outcomes and quality of life for patients living with Crohn’s Disease.
