The Metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) BioResource supports research into the causes and progression of the condition by bringing together participants from across the country who have consented to take part in studies.
MASLD (previously known as Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, or NAFLD), is a liver disease that ranges from fatty liver to severe scarring (cirrhosis). People at any stage can join the BioResource if their diagnosis is confirmed by tests such as blood work, imaging, or biopsy.
Participants consent to research, give a blood sample, and complete a health and lifestyle questionnaire to help researchers study genetic and environmental influences on the disease.
Researchers can apply to access the MASLD BioResource to investigate indicators or patterns linked to disease severity or treatment response. This work supports the development of better treatments and improved patient care.
MASLD patients are recruited through their clinician, who must be based at one of the participating sites across the country. If you are unsure whether your clinician is involved, please ask them to contact our team.
