D-CYPHR were proud sponsors of the Manchester Health Film Festival that took place recently at the Odeon Cinema Complex in Manchester. We were joined by one of our community partners, Caribbean and African Health Network (CAHN) and with community engagement agency, Egality Health, to educate families on the importance of representation in health research and how that helps health inequalities.
The film festival encouraged the topic of health discourse through the power of cinema and gave filmmakers the opportunity to showcase a variety of films that covered a range of health-related topics. Many of the films evoked an array of emotions within the attendees from sadness and grief to laughter. The filmmakers did a fantastic job with portraying the stories in an emotive but educational way.
D-CYPHR also uses film to display health research related messages in the right way to young people and busy parents. We have had a tremendous amount of sign ups through stories told by D-CYPHR volunteers and from collaborative partnerships on social media.
Our Young and Parent Ambassadors, Natalie and Emily and their mum Kita joined us at the stall too. They are all very passionate about D-CYPHR and spent the day speaking to families about the valuable role volunteers play in research. There were lots of parents eager to learn more about the Ambassador programme and how they can get their children involved.
One member of the D-CYPHR team, Frances, was on the Health Research Panel answering questions about D-CYPHR and spoke to the audience about the importance of children’s health research. The talk encouraged listeners to have conversations with the team afterwards which allowed for more personal questions and conversations to be had.
Join D-CYPHR from home
Any family with children aged 0-15 in the UK can join D-CYPHR. It’s as simple as filling in a health and lifestyle questionnaire online, where we will then send a saliva kit to your home for you to spit into a tube.
D-CYPHR needs volunteers with and without health conditions to better understand childhood health.
