Leicester Cardiovascular BioResource
The NIHR Leicester Cardiovascular BRU (LCBRU) based at the Glenfield Hospital is a collaboration between the University of Leicester and University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.
The Unit aims to improve the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases and provides an outstanding infrastructure for its team of multi-disciplinary researchers. Facilities include a purpose built laboratory, which includes automated freezers capable of processing over 450,000 samples via a barcoded system to ensure volunteers’ data are held securely and fully anonymised for research.
Recruitment to the BioResource is expedited as patients can be recruited through already established mechanisms, such as the BRICCS platform and GENVASC study. Leicester will also recruit healthy volunteers working with local GP surgeries and clinics and has already added over 4,000 volunteers in total to BioResource.
